Jason Kander Endorsed by Columbia Tribune

In the race for Missouri secretary of state, Democrat Jason Kander is running against Republican Shane Schoeller to replace incumbent Robin Carnahan, who is retiring from the office.

Kander wants to expand early and absentee voting. Republican efforts to prohibit absentee voting by mail would interfere particularly with military and other voters temporarily stationed outside their usual residential districts. Only 15 states, including Missouri, have laws as restrictive as ours.

Secretaries of state in Missouri have forged a good record through the years handling essential business service functions. In addition, Kander would consider helping small startups find help from incubators and other agencies.

The secretary of state race is politicized as never before. Shane Schoeller is running on a broad GOP agenda used in almost all races for any office. Kander would continue to try to improve marginally the good work done through many years in this office by incumbents of both parties, and he has the personal skills and instincts for the job.

Jason Kander for Missouri secretary of state.
