Former Missouri Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell Endorses Fellow Veteran Jason Kander for Secretary of State
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former Missouri Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell announced today that he is endorsing fellow veteran Jason Kander to be Missouri’s next Secretary of State.
“Voters are looking for leaders who will work for Missourians and their families,” said former Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell. “Time after time Jason Kander has answered the call to serve, and done so with distinction and honor. As Missouri’s next Secretary of State, he’ll protect seniors and their investments, run clean elections, and help get more small businesses off the ground. I’m proud to endorse Jason Kander’s candidacy for Missouri Secretary of State.”
Maxwell, from Audrain County, served as Lt. Governor from 2000-2005, after previously being elected to both the Missouri House of Representatives and the Missouri Senate. Like Kander, Maxwell is a veteran having served for twenty years in the Missouri National Guard.
“As an officer in the Missouri National Guard and as our Lt. Governor, Joe Maxwell always put service to his country and his state above politics,” Kander said. “His leadership has made a real and lasting difference for the people of Missouri. I’m thrilled to have Lt. Gov. Maxwell’s support and I look forward to seeking his wise counsel on issues that affect families all across our state.”
Jason Kander is a State Representative from Kansas City and previously served in the Army National Guard. As a military intelligence officer in the Army Reserve, Kander volunteered in 2006 for deployment and served in Afghanistan. In 2010, he was one of ten soldiers selected as national finalists for Army Reserve Outstanding Junior Officer of the Year. Rep. Kander currently serves on the Missouri Veterans Commission. Kander is a lawyer and lives with his wife Diana in Kansas City.
